Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American average was over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
